This will be the first of two meetings, the rematch is slated for Dec. 21 in Atlanta. St. Louis played four of eight matches tied. They split them achieving after OT two victories and two defeats. But, anyway they had excellent goalies in the goal. Halak notched his second-straight shutout on Thursday, 3-0, over the Nashville Predators. Halak has not allowed a goal in 151 minutes, 10 seconds, dating back seven periods to a 4-2 win over Chicago. He has .939 save percentage in this season, with 1.55 goals-against in 5 victories, one draw and one defeat. At home, St. Louis won all four matches, two after OT, with goal difference 12:4. The last match at home, six days ago, against Pittsburgh, ended without goals. In victory over Chicago, 4:2, the first period ended 1:1. Against Anaheim, St. Louis won 5:1 - the first period 2:0, while their first home match, against Philadelphia they won against OT, 2:1 (1:1), but the first period 1:0. For tonight's match St. Louis defender Roman Polak (lacerated right wrist) is out, while defender Carlo Colaiacovo (upper body) and forward Cam Janssen (concussion, sternum contusion) are questionable.
Trashers started with victory 4:2 over Washington Capitals and made first surprise. That victory was followed by two defeats away, then two victories. They spoiled the impression with next three defeats, two at home, but the last two matches are won. They played three of five matches away with two goals in the first period, one with one goal and one match without goals in the first period. Three draws (0:0 and 1:1 twice), one won 1st period (1:0) and two lost (both 0:2). The goalie Pavelec has a 3.32 GAA and .902 save percentage. Tonight they are without defender Freddy Meyer (mid-body injury) and forward Patrice Cormier (broken foot).
So, according to both team's played matches in the first period, despite of good goalies, we can expect goals. At least two. Maybe 3 or more (@ 3.5), but I do not have a brave enough for that tip of after good series that I have, because I keep fear of failure.
