Paul Nicholson was simply great at the beginning of the season. He won a big tournament and even beat Phil Taylor in the process, right after he won the title again. So, everyone though that he will be a top contender this year. But it was not to be. He crashed out early in just about every solid tournament after that. No great results, no visible improvement, nothing. Last time out on the stage, he seemed without confidence and kinda unmotivated. That is not a great sign. This event draws large crowds and he will be under tremendous pressure to get a result and that will not help him. Furthermore, the format of the group stage means no long matches, so he will not have much time to settle in. His group is a tough one also - Baxter is a level above him at the moment and the other two players are very talented - in fact, this is the group that seems the most closely matched. So, although Nicholson may well surprise me and bounce back here, but at the odds of 2, I like the chance it won't happen.
