Another match between teams with good defenses. There have planed appearance of goalie Tuukka Rask that played on only five matches in this season. He had good personal output, but bad for the team. Bruins lost six matches in this season, and Rask played on the five - four at home and one away from Boston. It was defeat at Rangers, 2:3, and Rask had Sv% .900. His overall NHL efficiency on 55 matches has been GAA 2.07 and Sv% .929. His previous appearance was against Montreal (1:3) and, despite of defeat, he had even 38 saves (.927 - 2 goals in PP). According to the last news, excellent Tim Thomas could on the ice tonight, and if he plays a picture of the match will a bit changed. Thomas has had GAA 1.32 and Sv% .960 on 10 matches this season (9 victories and one defeat). So, he played every time when Bruins won. He had four shutout, the last one two days ago in victory 3.0 over New Jersey. Otherwise, Bruins are brilliant away from home, with only one defeat on seven matches, and in spite of that they allowed only 13 goals, an average of 1.86 per match. Rask participated in that only away defeat (3:5) allowing one goal and saving 12 shots (.923) for 20 minutes on the ice.
At goal of Rangers will be Henrik Lundquist, who is the first goalie option in Rangers this season, before Canadian Martin Biron. Lundquist allowed 34 goals on 13 matches (7 victories and 5 defeats) for GAA 2.61 and Sv% .921, while 12 were allowed on the last five matches (3 victories and 2 defeats). His last appearance was in Pittsburgh (3:2 OT), two days ago, and he had excellent Sv% .943 (37 SV of 39 SA). It was excellent outcome taking his illness in the previous days into consideration. Both teams have not allowed turn of matches in the third period. There is very important that they lead from the start and keep that in the second period. Bruins has been more successful in that because they have not let any advantage slip by after the first period. Bruins scored 11 goals (of overall 44) in PP, and Rangers 10 (of overall 55). But, Bruins played three matches less, so that they are more successful in PP - 19.0% against 15.4% of Rangers.
As for injured players, center David Krejci is absent at Bruins, while defender Boychuk could be in the team tonight. At Rangers, except Drury and Prospal, there are not defender Rozsival and probably forward Boogaard.
I cannot hide that I like Bruins in this season, so my opinion that they will not lose this match, especially with Thomas at goal, needs not be objective. Anyway, Rask cannot be dogged by misfortune in every game. That guy is good goalie and he has excellent defensive line in front of himself. For me, it is cemented under 5.5, and I would say, too, draw within 60. I hope, Bruins will win at the end.
