Edmonton Oilers played 7 matches at home - they won 2 and lost 5 of them. They achieved two only victories at home on the first season matches, one of them was with shutout and other one with two conceded goals. After that we could see a collapse of this team, with 6 consecutive defeats and even 13 defeats in 15 games. Five of them were in Edmonton, and away team scored at least three goals in all of them. On yesterday's match, in debacle against Chicago (0:5) Blackhawks charge them for previous two defeats in Chicago (4:7, 1.2). On that match, Oilers stood even 47 shots, so they could be satisfied with "only" five conceded goals. On the other hand, they had only 18 shots at Chicago's goal. Experienced goalie Khabibulin was at Oilers' goal and allowed 4 goals during the first two periods, in order that he leaved the match because of groin injury. Young Canadian Dubnyk replaced him in the last period and allowed one goal. He will probably be on the bench, while a veteran Martin Gerber has been called from AHL to play as starter in that game. It could be good occasion for Oilers, since in the last 13 games Khababulin achieved GAA 4.59, although Khababulin was not only culprit for that. Except of Khababulin, defender Ladislav Smid is injured too. Coyotes are without the captain, Shane Doan, veteran at right wing, and without defender Kurt Sauer, but in essence there are not very important absences.
Both teams allowed large number of shots against (35.0 vs 35.4), while Coyotes have been more energetic to shot at opponent's goal (25.5 vs 29.7). Phoenix Coyotes are in series of 4 consecutive victories to improve their position after bad start at the beginning of the season. They scored more than 2 goals on only 4 of 9 away matches, but in this season they have not played against Edmonton, so far.
