The Effects of Globalizing the NFL

In 1492, if a young explorer named Christopher Columbus never decided to sail east, then what would the makeup of human civilization throughout the globe be? Would it be the way we know it today or would things be completely different? This is a question that could be asked several decades later regarding the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell's crusade to take his league global.

Eagles Fans are Afraid

Chip Kelly has been making headlines ever since he became the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was hired on January 16, 2013. In the two seasons since he was hired, the team has finished 10-6 both years. In 2013, the Eagles won the NFC East and lost in the Wildcard Round of the playoffs to the New Orleans Saints. The season was considered a success considering the team only won four games the year before. Philly was expected to take a step forward this past season. They were 5-2 before quarterback Nick Foles went down with a broken collarbone. Backup Mark Sanchez stepped up and played decently well. Aside from the dozens of turnovers he was responsible for, Sanchez proved that Kelly’s offense is more about scheme and less about personnel. The Birds were 9-3 and in the drivers seat of the NFC East, but they finished the season in a very disappointing fashion, with a record of 1-3 in their final four games.

The Punch That Should’ve Changed the NFL

There are a number of negative stereotypes that have bogged down the NFL for years and neither the players nor the organization as a whole are doing anything to help their cause. For every player that gets into legal trouble there are probably a dozen at least that do not but they are not the ones that get the spotlight in the media. The men that receive this negative attention are detrimental to the league. Not only do they represent themselves, but they also are linked to the team they play for and the league. Therefore, when one player does something foolish, it reflects poorly on everyone. In other places of employment, people who get in legal messes tend to get into trouble with their employers; but when it comes to the NFL, the players do not have to worry about facing harsh penalties. This aspect of the NFL’s internal judicial system quickly came to light with the Ray Rice scandal, and they had the opportunity to completely change the shape of the league but chose not to.

Football Betting on Corners

Many bookmakers are now offering bets on corners in many football matches. But do you know how to find value in them?

Patriots vs. Spurs vs. Lakers

The New England Patriots have won their fourth Super Bowl since 1999. They’ve played in six. No other team has had success on this level this long in football. Other sports are different story though: the Lakers have five titles in seven tries and the Spurs have five championships in six appearances during that time period. But the question is: is the Patriots’ success more impressive than the Spurs’ or Lakers?

The Best Quarterback Ever: Tom Brady

Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all-time. Before today, a debate could’ve been held, but now there’s no argument. None. We are in the presence of greatness. Brady had a great Super Bowl. He threw for over three hundred yards, four touchdowns and two picks. Those two interceptions aren’t necessarily excusable but now they can be overlooked. The important part is that when the game really mattered, when boys are separated from men and men from gods, Tom Brady threw that touchdown to Julian Edelman with two minutes and two seconds left.

Who Will Win The Super Bowl?

February first is the day we’ve all been waiting for: Super Bowl Sunday. There will be more wings, nachos, and pizzas eaten than any other day in the year. According to the National Chicken Council, they predict 1.23 billion chicken wings will be eaten and that adds up to over 100 million pounds of chicken. Super Bowl Sunday should be a national holiday. People shouldn’t have work and kids shouldn’t have classes on Monday. Everyone will be watching this game and for the people in Seattle and New England, the outcome of the game will affect their mood for the following weeks.
